Nonprofit leadership, learned on two continents.
I'm Dr. John W. Gravley. I help nonprofit boards and executives through leadership transitions, campaigns, and governance change, drawing on years of leading organizations in the United States and in Hong Kong.

My story
I learned leadership where nothing was familiar.
For 12 years I led a nonprofit in Hong Kong, in Cantonese, in a culture not my own. I learned to listen before acting, earn trust quickly, and lead people who didn't choose me.
Those are the skills that matter most when your organization is between leaders, behind on a campaign, or stuck at the board table. I brought them home to the American Truck Historical Society, where I served as Executive Director, and to the boards and campaigns I've worked with since.
Understand the organization first. Then lead the change it needs.
