Methodology

A way of working built on listening.

Every organization is different. I begin by learning how yours actually works, and I bring varied experience from nonprofits of many kinds, and from leading in a culture not my own.

01

  • 20 minutes to understand what's happening and what you need
  • I share what I'd look at first, with no obligation

FREE

A conversation

02

  • Scope, deliverables, schedule, and fee, scoped to your organization
  • A starter engagement is available if you want to begin small

IN WRITING

A written proposal

03

  • Spells out the details of your project, including whether the work is on-site or remote
  • Fixed project fee, paid at the intervals the contract sets

AGREEMENT

A contract

04

  • Work starts when the contract is signed and the first payment is received
  • I listen first, then act on what the organization needs

START

The work begins

05

  • Deliverables handed over, with clear records your team can keep using
  • Next steps agreed before we finish

CLOSE

A clean finish

THE PROCESS

From first call to finished work.

Working together

Three questions boards ask me.

1

What does the process look like?

It starts with a conversation and a written proposal. The contract then sets out the scope, schedule, and payments for your project.

2

How will we know it's working?

Each contract names the deliverables and milestones, so progress is something the board can see. [how often you report to the board]

3

How much can we communicate with you?

The contract sets how we stay in touch, including meetings with the board and staff. [your usual response time]

What you can expect

One point of contact for the board, staff, and funders

Plain reports, not surprises

Scope and fees agreed in writing

Confidential conversations and work

What I bring

I listen, and I've seen many kinds of organizations.

I listen before I recommend. I've worked with nonprofits of many kinds, and I spent 7 years leading a nonprofit in Hong Kong, in Cantonese, in a culture not my own.

I work with nonprofits with annual budgets from $600,000 to $5 million.
